Off the back of our recent successful support slots with The Twang, The Rifles and Feeder, we have been booked in for a headlining slot at CLUB NME’s night at Koko in Camden, London on Friday 1st June.
This will provide yet another excellent platform for the band to perform on and will be nicely timed, with the release of the single ‘Sleeper’ and the official press launch of the album ‘Daystar’.
Hot on the heels of our recent support slots with The Twang & The Rifles we are extremely excited to announce we are supporting the iconic ‘Feeder‘ for the Sheffield leg of their UK tour on Monday 23rd April at the legendary Leadmill.
Off the back of this there is more exciting news to come but you can wait a day or so for that………

Manchester indie/rock five-piece DAYSTAR is set to release their latest single ‘Sleeper’ on 11th June.
Daystar’s rise over recent months has been impressive to say the least. With a sound drawing expertly from contemporary influences like The Smiths and The Stone Roses and with song craft reminiscent of legendary groups like R.E.M. and The Beach Boys, the band have rapidly developed a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming indie acts while supporting the likes of The Rifles and The Twang on tour.
This is the fantastic animated video which……..fuck it….Just watch it and see for yourselves!
Captured by legendary Liverpool producer Ronnie Stone (the man behind Mansun’s hit album ‘Attack of The Grey Lantern’), ‘Sleeper’ is a beautifully hypnotic and mellow song boasting chiming, shimmering guitars with front man Simon Monaghan’s sweet melodies soaring above. It’s an indie lullaby of real quality and, lyrically, a poignant rallying call to the lost souls who drift through life without ever fulfilling their potential. ‘Sleeper’ will be available on iTunes from 11th June.
There’s evidence aplenty of the band’s respect and admiration for the work of Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd and perhaps more than a passing nod to the classic harmonies of Brit-pop heroes such as Mansun and The Charlatans.
Lead singer, Simon Monaghan, has a voice that exudes distinction and class, delivered amidst a sound that, while unashamedly steeped in familiarity, resonates with a fresh urgency and vitality that has won the band many high profile fans, including Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, Clint Boon (XFM/Inspiral Carpets), BBC Radio 2’s Janice Long (‘They Said I’d like this, they were right’), presenter Terry Christian and BBC DJ Gary Crowley (‘I’m absolutely loving this, I can certainly hear the Syd Barrett and Brian Wilson influences’).
Coming straight of the back of announcing our Rifles Support at HMV Ritz on 29th March we are extremely pleased to announce two dates supporting The Twang on their current tour.
The first date is on Saturday 10th March at Derby University.
The second date is on Friday 23rd March at a top little venue called The Box in Crewe.
We are sure both these venues will be absolutely packed to the rafters and we look forward to seeing as many of you down there as possible.

This cheeky little review of our next single “Dont Need This” – (due out on 12th March) in The Sun from Friday 24th Feb sees us awarded 3.5 Stars out of 5 and finishing 4th out of the 10 singles reviewed.
Also, In the article, X-factor Finalist of a couple of years back Rebecca Ferguson received 3 stars. Who says guitar music is dead?!
We are very proud to announce that we have been given a support slot for The Rifles for their Manchester date on their upcoming tour promoting their third album “Freedom Run” which was released last September.
The Rifles, with their 60′s influenced sound fused with a modern drive and feel-good nature, have achieved high critical acclaim and this gig is one we are extremely proud to have been offered.
The gig is on Thursday 29th March at the HMV Ritz, one of THE best venues for its sound quality in town, and this gig is not to be missed.
If you havent heard The Rifles then click here to see their website

‘Don’t Need This’, the latest Daystar single, is set for release on March 12th. Captured by legendary Liverpool producer Ronnie Stone, it’s a beautifully crafted song comprising raking, shimmering guitars, ice-cool licks, nonchalantly assured, cascading bass-lines, laid back somersaulting grooves and the sweet, soaring melodies from front man Simon Monaghan. Monaghan sings his heart out here (’what goes on in here?’, ‘look at the sly boy‘, ‘look at the shy girl‘), with unflinching feeling and belief, on a subject matter close to home … in his own words; “This song is about the pretension and conformity of the murky underbelly of the Manchester club scene and the social whores who frequent it”. There’s evidence aplenty of the band’s respect and admiration for the work of Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd and perhaps more than a passing nod to the classic harmonies of Brit-pop heroes such as Mansun and The Charlatans.
Daystar’s rise over recent months has been impressive to say the least. With a sound drawing expertly from contemporary influences whilst effortlessly tapping into the feel-good aspect of sixties mod culture, the band have rapidly developed a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming indie acts.
Daystar songs charm through the noble art of storytelling whilst creating eclectic soundscapes that conjure fond recollections of classic tunes by The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The La’s, and bands of the ilk, along with song craft reminiscent of legendary groups like R.E.M. and even The Beach Boys. Lead singer, Simon Monaghan, has a voice that exudes distinction and class, delivered amidst a sound that, while unashamedly steeped in familiarity, resonates with a fresh urgency and vitality that has won the band many high profile fans, including Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, BBC Radio 2’s Janice Long ‘They Said I’d like this. They were right.’, presenter Terry Christian and BBC DJ Gary Crowley ‘I’m absolutely loving this, I can certainly hear the Syd Barrett and Brian Wilson influences’.
To mark the release of ‘Don’t Need This’, Daystar are staging live shows at;
Manchester’s Dry Bar (18th February)
London’s This Feeling at the Vibe Bar (February 24th)
Manchester’s This Feeling at FAC251 (16th March).
Join the revolution…

Just in time for the release of Don’t Need This as a single on February 27th I thought I would post our performance on the tellybox from last year on ESPN’s Talk of the Terrace. It was our second time on the show. The first time they have ever had a band on twice!! Check it out!

Do you fancy winning two tickets to a gig of your choice, a Daystar Album, the CD singles, and a Daystar t-shirt?
All band’s dream of winning a “Band Of The Year” accolade, and at Daystar we are no different. So when local radio station Pure FM asked people to cast their votes Daystar received over 6000 votes in the final to win “Best Band 2011″. Needless to say, such an accolade at such a fledgling stage of career is something we are all immensely proud of and we’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who took time to vote.
As avid football fans, to have the heroes you grew up with actually now embracing your own work then nothing can give you a bigger thrill!
And for Manchester City fan, and Daystar bass player Ste, exactly this happened with an interview in the November issue of City’s “Manc” magazine, seen by tens of thousands of City fans worldwide, as he talks about his love City, music and the band.
Not wanting to miss out on the buzz surrounding Manchester’s next biggest thing, City’s neighbours United have latched on to the band’s ever-increasing popularity, and featured an interview with lead singer, and staunch red, Si in the Match Programme, seen by 75,000 spectators for the Champions League match against Benfica.

Ste gives his views on criticism and how we have dealt with the small amount we have faced…….
In the excitement of all the good reviews yesterday I forgot to mention that Terry Christian played us on his ‘Northerners With Attitude’ show on Imagine FM the other night! Not in the unsigned bit either but in amongst signed and established bands which is a sign of how much he rates us!
Slowly but surely and with no money behind us as such we are starting to really establish ourselves and a big thanks to all the people who support us, re-tweet our tweets, wax lyrical about us and are generally good people who want to see our music get heard by as many people as possible.
Without you lot we wouldn’t have had the confidence to carry on. (You know who you are)

Ste gives a blow by blow account of our first TV appearance on ESPN’s Talk of the Terrace and the inside track of what being on the tellybox is actually like!
Ste spends some time talking about the worst gig we have ever done, supporting the now defunct Detroit Social Club, Sacking a guitarist & not being Johnny Even Bigger Bollocks!
Last night I was checking to see who was talking about Daystar on Twitter like you do and I was greeted with the sight that 23 hours earlier Janice Long played our first single ‘Slip & Dive’ on BBC RADIO 2 but not only did she play it she said she thought we were fantastic and couldn’t wait for the album!! Obviously we have emailed our thanks and the album is winging its way over to her as we speak!
The best we hoped for with minimal backing was maybe some airplay on local stations and BBC Introducing in a few areas but BBC RADIO 2???
Everyday I start to believe more and more that we have something worth working for and its all going in the right direction.
Si Monaghan
Produced by Mansun engineer Ronnie Stone, ‘Slip And Dive’ owes much of its style to a Sixties mod influence ( – as do the band themselves, based on evidence of the YouTube video for the single below), wrapped up in a Nineties package, and delivered with present day panache and vibe. ”We like to think of it as our equivalent to The Who’s Can’t Explain, or You Really Got Me by The Kinks. We see it as powerful yet interesting, raw but with a certain quirky quality and a promise of bigger things to come.” explain Daystar.

With their first album already in the bag, these hardworking young men bring with them the same ethos I saw all those years ago, with another, now mega-famous, Manchester band (Oasis). Daystar are rapidly garnering massive support, and may well prove to be the forerunners of the next wave to put the Manchester music scene back on the map.
